Desert Flame is evocative of warm wind with a hint of chill, a twilight desert scentscape that emerges sweet and musky and spicy, piercing and lush. There are notes in it that seem industrial, like oil and smoke, dry, baked earth and stinging tea-like dust. It is distinctly earthy and edges around animalic. In my mind’s eye, I see clay painted bodies, dust, low, humming wind and the eeriness that creeps along at twilight. This perfume is alive. It is exquisite and I am so impressed with it. The longevity is commendable as it leaves a heady sweetness on the skin.
Lilly Pilly is also quite beautiful. It opens expansively floral with a quirky little dill-like green note that zaps in and out for about a minute or two. The perfume walks a fine line between herbal and floral without actually becoming either. It’s quite a trick. It evokes a connection to a primal earthiness while simultaneously holding onto worldly sophistication –a perfect melding of wildness and civility. When it settles, it holds on to these characteristics while introducing a soft, powdery Chypre-like elegance. Nothing clashes here, it is seamless.
An indigenous woman tends to the land and creatures that she has been protector of since she was born. The desert calls her to create art and stories, and pass the flame to her children so that they too, can protect Mother Earth for future generations. The cycles of night and day are ever present in the Australian desert; awareness and mindfulness is all that is required as time slips by.
This perfume reflects the dry desert in a balmy summer evening when the flower buds are closing for the day yet emit their strongest, most narcotic, but not too sweet scent. Base notes reflect the earthiness of the land and trees that linger long after the florals have left for the night.
